Candy Race 5k Returns to Columbus

A Most Colorful Affair

The Candy Race 5k returns to Columbus on Saturday July 18, 2020.  The last time it was held in our hometown was back in 2015!  After a 5 year hiatus, this fun, family friendly and super colorful event returns.  We are excited to bring it back again as we have missed hosting it here for all these years.  This year it will be held at Sharon Woods Metro Park which is a beautiful centrally located metro park just off I-270 and Cleveland Avenue.

The Candy Race 5k is one of Speedy Sneakers’ premier events.  We have hosted it in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus.  The longest running has been in Cincinnati where we host this event at Sawyer Point and have been going down there since 2014.

Enjoy the Candy!

At this event participants will enjoy colorful shirts, medals, bib numbers and receiving their bag of candy.  What most people wouldn’t know about the candy bags is that we actually mix them up ourselves.  It takes a bit of time, but it’s worth it.  Before each event we purchase a variety of candy, place them all in a large tub and mix it up.  We then fill each bag with a handful of candy, trying our best to have a good mixture of some of our favorites in each bag.  We love seeing the little kids finishing their 5k, receiving their medals and getting their bag of candy.  After receiving their bag, it’s a mad dash to find a spot to sit down and start the snacking.  We do have some healthy options though, as we always bring bananas with us.

Held at a Beautiful Location

What I love about this year’s event is that it’s being held in Sharon Woods.  It’s very easy to get to whether you live on the east side or west side of Columbus.  The course is an out and back, so parents don’t have to be concerned about kids getting lost.  Also, if the kiddos are a little faster than mom and dad, you can cheer them on the way back as they pass you going in the opposite direction.

We look forward to seeing you out there in July.
